What are Microgreens?

    • Microgreens are tiny plants of vegetables, herbs and grains between the size of sprouts and baby plants, which are ready to consume at the cotyledon stage once the first true leaves appear, after 7 to 10 days of germination.
    • Microgreens in majority are grown up to a height of about 2 to 4 inches (5 cm to 10cm). The microgreens are not to be mistaken for sprouts, but these are very different from sprouts due to their growing method. Microgreens generally get ready to harvest for consuming in 7 to 10 days after germination.
    • Sprouts vs Microgreens: Sprouts  are newly germinated seeds that people harvest just as the seed begins to grow and before their leaves develop. Conversely, microgreens grow from sprouts, and they have leaves. When the cotyledon leaves (the embryonic leaves) have fully developed, and the first true leaves have emerged, the plant becomes a microgreen.

Health Benefits of Microgreens

    • Microgreens are a great source of nutrients. They come in an array of colours. The flavour of microgreens is the same as that of any regular green but better.
    • Microgreens are more nutrient dense concentrates as compared to fully mature versions of the same vegetable or herb. They carry a nutritional value, that is 40 to 50 time higher as compared to fully grown vegetables and herbs of same verity
    • Microgreens primarily are high in a wide range of vitamins and minerals to begin with, such as vitamin A, C, K, Potassium, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and Copper.
    • Microgreens help preventing a range of diseases, managing weight, boosting both mental and physical health and well-being.
